Events

1) Attended talk led by Dr. Herb Lin and Dr. Jackie Kerr on Cyber-enabled information warfare and the end of the enlightenment. 
--Both speakers are fellows at CISAC discussed the concerns about living in a world that relies on information, but that information is easily modified from reality.

2) Meeting with Hacking 4 Defense leaders on the class next term
--I will serve as a mentor for a team working on a DoD concern. Teams are cross-function. Department of Navy provides seed money for the Stanford version of H4D.

3) Discussion with Dr. Joe Nye on "Will the Liberal International World Order survive?"
--His concerns center around changes to international relations theory, economic trends, tech trends and globalization/deglobalization.

4) Gave a talk at the Stanford Applied Cybersecurity Working Group
--My talk centered around the vulnerabilities of the Internet of Things and Applications
--The Freeman Spogli Institute recorded it and will turn it into a podcast, MTF.

5) Gave a talk to Hoover fellows on cyber awareness
--Talk centered around passwords, e-mail, public wifi and other personal cyber security concerns. Some of the talk built of my Dec OpEd on Cyber Hygiene

6) Led the board for the Stanford In Government Air Force Civil Engineering Fellowship
--Interviewed five Stanford Undergrads for prestigious fellowship on the Air Staff this summer
--Chose the prioritized top 3. Will mentor the selectee in run up to Pentagon 

7) Attended discusion on China's Digital Policies & US China Relations led by Dr. Max Smeets and Dr. Graham Webseter
--Talk centered around China's six systems of internal info content management, cybersecurity protection system, critical infrastructure protection, personal info and data protection, network products and cybersecurity incident management systems

8) Attended discussion on Cyberspace Information Strategy and International Security led by Marina Kaljurand (former Estonian Amb to US)
--She now works on an international panel working to develop cyber norms

9) Consultation on upcoming book by SecState Schultz (60th SecState) on the role of AI and future technologies in national security. Book development is an 18 month process. Will continue to consult and participate in a working group in the Fall, while at DIUx.

10) Facilitated MBA class taught by Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Dr. Amy Zegart on Managing Global Political Risk
--Specific class focused on how a company should handle a cyber attack and possible response and coordination actions.

SWOT Analysis of an Air Force Organization (Doctoral Requirement). This paper analyzed the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats around an Air Force organization.

Air Force Organizational Crisis Management Plan (Doctoral Requirement). This paper built off of the earlier SWOT analysis and developed a crisis management plan for the organization to use.

Perspectives from Home (Stanford writing requirement). This a short book of 22 poems written from the family's perspective of what happens when a member is gone over multiple deployments and TDYs.

Current Research:

Air Force: Four historical strategists take on cyber. Plan is to assess how Thucydides, Jomini, A.J. Mahan, Herman Kahn would approach cyber strategy. Thucydides, Jomini, Mahan, Kahn. Currently drafting Thucydides section. Each will also have a smaller OpEd possible for The Hill.

Doctoral: The role of private foundations in high school. Plan is assess the positive benefits of private foundations and what happens in school districts that do not have private foundations. Dissertation plan approved. Chapter 1 draft approved.
