Events 1) Meeting with former Ambassador to Afghanistan LTG (ret) Karl Eikenberry --Discussed his role hear at Stanford and what he misses about national service. He teaches a class at Stanford in the spring on the role of Technology and National Security. I will serve as a guest lecturer for the class. 2) Attended session on Countering Information Warfare with Dr. Paul Stockton (formed ASD/HD) --Excellent discussion on the value of information warfare and how we can improve national security to deal with increased adversarial use of information warfare. 3) Attended two day conference on the Role of Military History in Contemporary Conflict --Some of the topics discussed: Turkey's continued membership in NATO, New categories of conservative foreign policy, Status of US Naval readiness, When do we leave Afghanistan (with a former AFG AMB to US) and North Korea. Update 4 - 2 October 2017

Events 1) Held first-ever AF Birthday celebration at the Hoover Institution. With the other AF NSAF, we talked about AF operations of the past, present and the future. We watched a short video clip and had birthday cake. 2) Meeting with Toomas Hendrick Ilves (former Estonian President) --President Ilves was the newly elected President of Estonia when they were hacked. He walked us through the response, how his nation changed and recommendations for the U.S. going forward. 3) Meeting with Alice Hill (Hoover DC office and former NSC Climatologist) --Discussed at length the role of climate change and national security. Verifiable facts are that the sea level is rising and the overall temperature of the earth is rising. 4) Lecture series with ADM Jim Stravridis --One-on-one discussion before about the role of the sea in national strategy. September was a great month of learning. Wright Brothers , David McCullough. Deep history on the brothers that shaped the world. Interesting insight on the largest immoral technology creation of the late 1800s...the bicycle. Events 1) Meeting with Ms. Amber Henninger and former President of LockMart Missile Systems --Discussed multiple National Security topics 2)  Discussion on Cyber Coercion with Dr. Brandon Valeriano (Marine Corps University) at the Center for Global Security Research, Lawrence Livermore National Lab.   --Dr. Valeriano is currently writing a book on the viability of cyber coercion in international security environment.  3) NSAF Orientation with Hoover leadership --Discussed the future year here at Stanford and all the benefits of the program.  This year's NSAF class has 2x Airmen (12M and me), 2x Coast Guard (Surface), 1x Army (Asian FAO), 1x Marine (Infantry), 1x Navy (Super Hornet Aviator) and 1x DoS Officer (just left DCM Angola) 4) Meeting with Hoover Institution Oversears --Discussed the annual program and personal networking Upcoming - Hosting the Hoover Institutions first-ever Air Force birthday celebration with the other USAF NSAF. ...

Update 2 -- 18 Aug 2017

Events 1) Meeting with Dr. Bob Oster (former VP Finance at Oracle).  --Discussed the benefits of the NSAF program and upcoming opportunities 2) Meeting with Dr. Herb Lin (senior cyber research fellow at Hoover and Center for International Security and Cooperation (CISAC)) --Discussed his goal to develop cross talk between USSOCOM and USCYBERCOM IOT share notes on mission planning. I explained the concept of Warfighter Talks and how that is a good forum to use as a baseline. Critical timing based on the Presidential Directive released today elevating UCC to a Functional COCOM. MTF 3) Meeting with AF/A1 Talent Management Team IOT discuss the results of the OPR Crowdsourcing event. Results from that work will support the upcoming SecAF/CSAF Workforce Summit. Next crowdsourcing event will be tied to filling Institutional Requirements (AU, AETC, etc) with the best Airmen possible. Update 1 -- 27 July 2017

I officially reported in to Dr. Amy Zegart (Caution- https://cisac.fsi. stanford.edu/people/amy_zegart  < Caution- https://cisac.fsi. stanford.edu/people/amy_zegart  > ) on Tuesday.  She is simply exciting to work with and stressed her desire to maintain a cyberspace operations officer as a NSAF each year.  She is working on her fifth book right now.  This book is on using drones [her word] as a strategic deterrent.  She asked me to review that book for strategic context and UAV operational approach. She co-wrote her last book with Secretary (Dr.) Rice. Upcoming Events: 30 Jul - 4 Aug:  Air Force Fellows Orientation in DC (tab 1) 8 Aug: Lunch with Dr. Bob Oster, formed VP of Finance at Oracle 14-16 Aug: Congressional Cyber Boot Camp.  I will serve as a facilitator, but more likely as a huge sponge.  Agenda attached (tab 2).
