Update 1 -- 27 July 2017

I officially reported in to Dr. Amy Zegart (Caution-https://cisac.fsi.stanford.edu/people/amy_zegart < Caution-https://cisac.fsi.stanford.edu/people/amy_zegart > ) on Tuesday.  She is simply exciting to work with and stressed her desire to maintain a cyberspace operations officer as a NSAF each year.  She is working on her fifth book right now.  This book is on using drones [her word] as a strategic deterrent.  She asked me to review that book for strategic context and UAV operational approach. She co-wrote her last book with Secretary (Dr.) Rice.

Upcoming Events:

30 Jul - 4 Aug:  Air Force Fellows Orientation in DC (tab 1)
8 Aug: Lunch with Dr. Bob Oster, formed VP of Finance at Oracle
14-16 Aug: Congressional Cyber Boot Camp.  I will serve as a facilitator, but more likely as a huge sponge.  Agenda attached (tab 2).
TBD: Cyber Planning Retreat
---Participants:  Dr. Zegart, Andy Grotto (just arrived after serving as the Senior Director for Cyber on the NSC), 3x Security Fellows at Stanford's CISAC (Caution-https://cisac.fsi.stanford.edu < Caution-https://cisac.fsi.stanford.edu > ) and myself.  Purpose: Get a better idea of the group's individual and collective interests in order to chart a two year plan for research, classes, and policy engagement.

Written work:
There is a research requirement tied for Hoover while I am here as well as one for the Air Force Fellows program.  I might try tying those documents together, depending on my topics, and might use those items for my Doctoral requirements at St. Thomas.

Final Update -- 15 Jun 2018

Events: 1) Met with Stanford Midshipmen: discussed their futures in the USN and DoD. Stanford averages six midshipmen per year, two soldiers and this year, zero AFROTC cadets. 2) Attended book presentation on  Political Risk  by Dr. Condoleezza Rice and Dr. Amy Zegart (my boss at Hoover).  Authors discussed there book which was built from a class on the topic. 3) Trip to Idaho National Labs. Attended a three day conference discussing the cybersecurity of control systems in critical infrastructure. In short, we are owned, we must prioritize and execute. This has the power to half AF operations. 4) Meeting with Mr. Jim Baker (Director, ONA). This was the NSAFs second visit of the year with Mr. Baker. He was extremely interested in our groups insight into national security challenges. He later presented his perspectives on the "3rd Offset" to the Stanford class on Technology and National Security. The books of Feb/Mar 2018

The Good Lieutenant  (Whitney Terrell). Mr. Terrell embedded with ground units in Iraq and wrote a fictional book about life in a combat support company of an INF BN. His work centers around a Lt and how the officer led her unit and the changes she underwent during that time. We discussed the book with the author in my War and Fiction class at Stanford.
