The Books of October and November

Behind, so here is two months at once.

Destined for War: Can America and China Escape Thucydides's Trap? Graham Allison. Allison walks the reader through historical conflicts dealing with the rise of national powers. This often led to the larger power waging war to limit the expansion of a rising power. https://www.amazon.com/Destined-War-America-Escape-Thucydidess/dp/B06ZZPQNT5/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509402211&sr=8-1&keywords=destined+for+war

Kissinger: Volume I: 1923-1968: The Idealist, Niall Ferguson. The most thorough biography I have ever read. Ferguson was asked by Dr. Kissinger to do his biography and it does not disappoint. The book follows Dr. Kissinger through his formative years in Europe to his immigration to the US, back to Europe for WWII as an Army enlisted Counterintelligence agent and up to his selection by President Nixon as the NSA. Well worth the time. https://www.amazon.com/Kissinger-I-1923-1968-Idealist/dp/B0149GRQQ6/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1509402368&sr=1-1&keywords=Kissinger+volume+1

The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization, Peter Senge. Book that uses examples to example concepts of learning organizations and the pros of cons of multiple methods of shaping an organization. https://www.amazon.com/Fifth-Discipline-Practice-Learning-Organization/dp/B0000640E9/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1509402597&sr=1-1&keywords=the+fifth+discipline+the+art+%26+practice+of+the+learning+organization

Global Strategic Management. Great book that walks through concerns from franchising to leading international organizations. https://www.amazon.com/Global-Strategic-Management-Jedrzej-George/dp/0198706596/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511293812&sr=8-2&keywords=global+strategic+management

Civilization (Niall Ferguson). Dr. Ferguson's in depth research bares fruit again as he analyzes the rise of and downfalls of western civilizations. https://www.amazon.com/Civilization-West-Rest/dp/B0061YX21I/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1511293872&sr=1-1&keywords=civilization

How Everything Became War and the Military Became Everything (Rosa Brooks). Ms. Brooks diagrams the legal obstacles and the use of military force to fill in gaps in other governmental organizations. She spends a lot of time on reconciling the use of drones to kill people in other nations. https://www.amazon.com/How-Everything-Became-War-Military/dp/B01J1XKH2C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511294088&sr=8-1&keywords=how+everything+became+war+and+the+military+became+everything

Confront and Conceal: Obama's Secret Wars and Surprising Use of American Power (David E. Sanger). Mr. Sanger analyzes the use of military power outside of officially declared war during the previous administration. https://www.amazon.com/Confront-Conceal-Obamas-Surprising-American/dp/B0088VP5EE/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1511294134&sr=1-1&keywords=confront+and+conceal+sanger
